Ready, set, oh wait, the baby is already here?!
Here's my birth story. It's a quick one!
Margot woke up around 3am needing to go to the bathroom. I took her and crawled back into back after she was done. I laid there for a little while (which was normal, because it seemed to take me longer to get back to sleep) and felt a little cramp. No biggie, I'd felt them before. All of a sudden, I felt a "pop" and knew that my water had broke. Luckily I made it to the bathroom before it made a big mess. I texted Mom about 3:30 asking her to go ahead and come on over, because I knew we'd have to be getting to the hospital at some point. I sent her another text and said no rush, because I wasn't having contractions or anything.
So as I was waiting for Mom, I got dressed, made sure I had everything I needed and then just walked around because I didn't know what else to do. We were wondering if we really needed to get to the hospital or if we could wait, but the little voice of Dr. Long (my OB) kept popping up saying not to dilly dally when the time came (we're very glad he told us this). Mom got to the house around 4am and we headed out. I started having some contractions on the way to the hospital, and they were stronger than I anticipated.
We arrived at the hospital around 4:30 and were taken to the triage area. They have to do this to ensure that you are actually in labor before they admit you. At this point the contractions had gotten really strong and I starting asking for an epidural. Screw the, trying to do this naturally stuff! I was checked and was already 8cm! They rolled me into the delivery room, and the contractions were really strong and extremely painful at this point. Luckily I only had to experience a few of them and then I had the urge to push. The doctors and nurses were telling me not to, but that didn't really seem possible. I had one nurse trying to put in an IV and Robbie laughed at me because I politely (really, not being sarcastic) asked if she could wait a second until the contraction subsided and when it did I apologized for making her wait. See, I'm a nice person. :) Another contraction and I really needed to push. They rolled me on my back and said "let's have a baby" or something like that. I pushed for a little bit and at 5:07, KABOOM!! out came a whopping 7lb 13oz and 21.5 inch long Nolan Maxwell Player. Yep, only 37 minutes after getting to the hospital. So fast, that my OB didn't even have time to get to the hospital. I'm ashamed to say that I don't even know the doctor's name that delivered Nolan, but will be finding out soon. I'm proud of myself for being able to (well, frankly, I really didn't have a choice) deliver completely medicine free! If I ever have to go through childbirth again, then I hope it's the same as this one. Get in there and get things done!
