37 Weeks and Progressing

We had our weekly doctor's appointment on Wednesday. We were told that I was 1 cm dilated and 60% effaced. It's exciting to know that things are starting to happen, but we also know I can walk around like this for weeks.  The doctor thinks the baby is about 6.5 pounds or so now, and should be around 7 when she's born (of course, we know they can be way off on those things, but it's cool to hear their estimate). We'll let you know how the next appointment goes. Update: Now 2cm dialted, but nothing much else new to report after today's appointment.

Where did May go?

Wow, didn't mean to let so much time pass without an update.  May was a busy month in the Player household.  The last week of April was the Quail Hollow Championship.    We had bought two books of tickets, so Robbie spent most of his days out at the course.  I went with him on Friday, as I traditionally do.  We have a lot of fun walking around, enjoying the beautiful course and watching the players. On Friday the 1st my brother and sister-in-law flew in as a surprise to my Dad for his 60th birthday.  Robbie and I picked them up at the airport and took them over to my parents house and boy was Dad surprised.  It's one of those looks like hey, wait a second, I know who you are, but what are you doing here?  I love surprising people like that!  We spent Saturday hanging out and then going out to eat. On the 3rd my good friends Christa and Chrissie, along with my Mom threw my an awesome baby shower.  We had great food and cake.  It was great seeing people that I hadn't seen in a while, plus it meant so much to me having everyone together to support the birth of our little girl.   Unfortunately, Robbie's Dad had to have surgery on April 30th, so Robbie went down to Atlanta to spend time with him, so he wasn't able to celebrate with us.  Thankfully, Stan is doing well, and Robbie enjoyed looking through everything once he returned.

Let's see, then on the weekend of the 9th, Robbie finished painting the nursery, and we went to Ikea and purchased a dresser and bookshelf (thanks to Grandma Teresa).  We, well Robbie, but I agreed, picked out some fabric at Ikea, and Grandma Teresa is going to make us some curtains.  The nursery is finally coming along, and I'm so excited.  I've washed and put everything we have, and now it's time to do the major decorating.  We are planning on getting some blik Wall decals for one of the walls.  Now it just comes down to picking them out.

Ok, so that puts us up to the 16th.  That weekend was pretty low key.  We stayed around the house and did stuff here since we were going to be gone the next one. Generally we go with Robbie's Mom's side of the family to Holden Beach in July.  This year they are going on the 11th, and seeing that my due date is the 8th, we knew we wouldn't be able to join them.  Instead of missing out on all the fun, we decided to go down on our own.  So we left on the 23rd for a week of sun and relaxation, and that's exactly what we got!  I think we both needed a week away from everything to clear our minds and get us rejuvinated for the upcoming months.

As of Wednesday I'll be 35 weeks.  I had a doctor's appointment today, and things are still going well and on schedule.   I now start going every week for check ups.  I really can't believe that we have only 5 weeks until our due date.  We've been attending some classes at the hospital, so hopefully that will help us be a little more prepared for what's to come. So there you have it.  That's what we've been up to.  Hopefully I won't be quite as slack this month with keeping updates.

And the Countdown Begins

Tomorrow I will be 30 weeks.  It's hard to believe that we only have 10 weeks to go!  I still get the overwhelming feeling of having to get so much stuff done prior to her arrival, but I know it'll all work out.  We finally started on the soon-to-be nursery.  Robbie primed it and think we've decided to paint it yellow, so once that is done we can start putting stuff in there.  Exciting! Everything on the baby front is going well.  My glucose test came back normal, so that's good, and as to date I've gained approximately 20 pounds.  I'm still amazed when people tell me they either didn't know I was pregnant (um, come on, can't you see the protruding belly) or they can't believe I'm as far along as I am.  I guess we all feel bigger than we are.  For those of you that don't know (which is probably nobody), but I entered a Miss Mom-To-Be contest through the local radio station.  The only thing required to enter was submitting a picture.  Easy enough, right?  They then picked 25 semi-finalists, which I was one of.  That's when I hit everyone up for their votes.  Little did I know they would chose 6 people to be the finalists (I presume based on number of votes) and then they are going to have an on-air pageant.  Um, yeah!  I think they'll choose the finalists in the next couple of days, so we'll see what happens. Also, I've finally made a big decision as far as diapering the baby.  This has been weighing heavily on my mind, so I'm glad to have come to a resolution.  We're going to try cloth diapers.  As goofy as it sounds, I feel like it's my responsibility to the environment.  I don't want to just go straight to disposables because they are easy and convenient.  When I read about the numbers of disposables that end up in the landfills as well as all the pee and poop that is there, seeping into the ground, it really bothers me.  Am I saying that there is no way that I will EVER use a disposable on my child?  Absolutely not, I'm just saying that if I don't try out cloth diapers, I'm going to be really disappointed in myself. Finally, I'm looking forward to a busy week full of fun with the golf tournament, my Dad's BIG birthday and our first baby shower.

25 Weeks

Tomorrow I'll be 26 weeks.  It's pretty crazy to think that we only have approximately 14 weeks left to go!  The munchkin is still growing, and boy have I felt it this last week.  I haven't had any pains, but I can definitely they belly and baby are gaining some weight.  Apparently she's still got plenty of room in there, because she has been kicking up a storm and moving all over.  It'd really be neat to have a camera in there to see what she was doing.  Of course, I'd never get anything done if that were the case. I have a doctors appointment on Thursday to get the standard glucose screening done.  It consists of drinking some super sugary substance and then waiting an hour and getting blood taken so they can evaluate how efficiently my body processes sugar. Robbie and I went and picked up some paint samples last weekend, and it looks like we'll end up with either a green or yellow nursery.  Now we have to figure out what Blik wall decals we want to use for decoration as well as picking out some sort of bedding.  Our first baby shower is in May, so we'll be able to start setting up everything after that.  It'll be exciting to see it all come together.   So that's all for now.  Thanks to the Biggest Loser, I now want a bowl of cereal, so I need to go do something to get my mind off of it!

24 weeks

Today is the beginning of my 24th week of pregnancy.  The baby is growing and so is the belly.  Up to this point, the pregnancy has been great.  There was no morning sickness in the first trimester, only a little bit of nausea if I didn't eat, but as long as I kept the food coming, I was a-ok.  The second trimester has been pretty uneventful too, which we're very thankful for.  We've had two ultrasounds and everything looks good.  The doctors think our little munchkin is going to be a girl, but they couldn't say 100%.  Apparently she's a little camera shy and had her legs tightly crossed and even had a hand blocking the view part of the time.  They did say they thought they saw "girl parts" though.  The picture below is from our 12 week ultrasound.  It's the best picture of her that we've received. I've been able to feel her moving since about 19 weeks.  It's such an amazingly strange feeling.  I'm looking forward to Robbie getting to feel her move around a bunch too.   We've still got to do the nursery, pick out a name, attend a few classes and get things ready around the house for our July arrival.  So exciting. So that's the update on where we stand.  We'll (I'll) try to do a better job of keeping this updated in the future so you can all enjoy the last three months of the pregnancy with us.
